"I enjoy running into my neighbors for small talk. I like that the children know my name and appreciate the opportunities to care for toddlers when their parents need a break or have to work. It is gratifying to work together on gardening and caring for the Common House. DSC neighbors have gotten really efficient at making decisions about how to care for our community resources." -Rich
"We have one of the best community gardens in Lawrence, due to the shared energy and expertise of our members." -Catherine
"We were deeply touched at Catherine's recent birthday by the many neighbors who delivered flowers and good wishes. Many neighbors pitched together to repaint the Common House exterior in 2019."" -Norm
"Elaine and I choose to buy here in the DSC because we were looking for a multi-generational community that fostered an attitude of openness and cooperation. We found great people from a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. Made our purchase worth every penny." -Doug
"Cohousing is a different way of Life that can have it's balance of ups and downs. For me, I see it as a built in volunteer opportunity to contribute to our community some of the time and talents I and my family possess. Each person has something they can, and really should contribute to help keep our community strong! I feel like this is a peaceful, mostly quiet, safe little haven for kiddos and adults to get to know each other better and cultivate more kindness and compassion.
The Common House has been a huge benefit when needing a larger space for celebrations. It has been the perfect spot for birthdays, work parties, and my Mom's celebration of Life. We look forward to doing Potlucks again, as those were a very special way to learn from and get to know each other. We usually have good volunteer support to make improvements and keep our haven looking its best. I really appreciate the cadre of concerned individuals we have that are so creative and dedicated to continued improvements in all areas.
It's that spirit of community care and concern for each other that we think is just priceless." -Laura
Lawrence is all about community. East Lawrence is truly a special place to be. Helping others, lending a hand, and getting together and creating community are the heart of Delaware Commons living. There is really nothing else quite like it in town!
Upon my last visit to Delaware Commons, I ran into a friend who was visiting some of her friends who currently live there. They were letting the kiddos play since the weather was finally nice enough to get outside! She was relaying that they had lived here years ago and just loved it. They simply enjoyed every opportunity to come back and visit with friends. I loved hearing that. The kids looked like they were having fun too!
I thought this would be a great bit of word-of-mouth advertising to get out into the world, because it's the best kind. Don't take my word for how great Delaware Commons is, listen to the folks who call it home. Now you can come see for yourself: Open House this Sunday 3/14 from noon to 1:30! Please come on by! (Mask required).
